The Enrichment Program
THE ENRICHMENT PROGRAM
The Enrichment Program is a school-based program that was developed to address the growing need for a solution to school violence, bullying, youth aggression, lack of critical thinking skills, and to prepare students for college and the workforce. A growing number of studies have shown significant positive results from students that are taught Social Emotional Learning and Conflict Management Skills through multi-year programs, because they are able to perform better in school. Thus, The Enrichment Program is not only a social intervention, but an academic intervention as well.
In partnering with The CP Consultant, school administrators will have the benefit of a subject matter expert on board, and gain a solid investment rooted in a passion for The Enrichment Program. As a Human Resources/Organizational Development Consultant, Demetré has created and developed training content and materials on the topics of Emotional Intelligence and Conflict Management, as well as facilitated training classes on the topics. Although the delivery of the content, some logistics and handouts will differ from that of workplace training on Emotional Intelligence, it is important to note that the content of Emotional Intelligence and Social Emotional Learning is the same. Social Emotional Learning was born out of Emotional Intelligence. Because of Demetré's knowledge and comfort level with the content, The Enrichment Program can be tailored to the needs of the school if necessary.
THE ENRICHMENT PROGRAM AT A GLANCE
- *The class size range is from 15-22 students.
- The target audience is both male and female students in grades four through twelve.
- The students that attend the class are identified by teachers and/or school administration.
- *At a minimum, the class meets twice a week for a total of two hours per week. The duration of the class is a full school year.
- *Class length varies depending on the school and the school's bell schedule.
- Weekly lesson plans guide the instruction of the class.
- A five to seven minute "relax and focus" period at the start of class allow students to mentally unwind, relax and prepare to focus on the lesson.
- A weekly rotating student co-facilitator will assist in leading the class; this encourages student involvement and engagement.
- Students make entries into their journals on the objective for the week. Journal entries allow students to track their progress and see their social improvements at the end of the school year.
- Class notes, weekly objectives and resources are online for the reference of both students and parents.
- To encourage parent involvement, short practice scenarios on class objectives are utilized as homework assignments.
- In-class interactive learning and role-playing of real life scenarios help students to learn, understand and retain the skills associated with SEL and Conflict Management.
- Quizzes, tests and formal grades are omitted from the class in order to remove pressure and allow students to engage in the class through interaction and conversation. Evaluation of the students' understanding and grasp of the objectives is through observation of the role-playing and journal entries.
- *Adjustable based on the needs of the school.
