The Enrichment Program
THE ENRICHMENT PROGRAM FOR AFTER SCHOOL AT A GLANCE
The Enrichment Program for After School focuses on self-management and social development for students. The program uses competencies for Social Emotional Learning and Conflict Management to help youth learn self-management and social development.
The Enrichment Program for After School is not therapy or counseling. The Enrichment Program for After School is a support program for parents/guardians, teachers and school counselors, and is considered a character development initiative. The program helps children develop the soft skills needed to succeed in life from elementary through higher learning and into the workforce.
The Enrichment Program for After School utilizes peer learning, role-playing and discussion to teach the competencies of the program. These teaching techniques produce high percentages of student engagement and comprehension of the competencies. Although students are learning skills, the program is filled with fun activities and interactive learning.
A FEW HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PROGRAM
- A five to seven minute "relax and focus" period at the start of class allow students to mentally unwind, relax and prepare to focus on the lesson.
- A weekly rotating student co-facilitator will assist in leading the class; this encourages student involvement and engagement.
- Students make entries into their journals on the objective for the week. Journal entries allow students to track their progress and see their social improvements at the end of the school year.
- To encourage parent involvement, short practice scenarios on class objectives are utilized as homework assignments.
- Interactive learning and role-playing of real life scenarios that students deal with or are exposed to at school, help students to learn, understand and retain the skills associated with Social Emotional Learning and Conflict Management.
